A MAN died in a car crash in Ballyvolane, Cork, yesterday morning. He was named last night as Richard McCambridge (21), The Glen, Cork.
Two other men were taken to Cork University Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries following the crash.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident which took place at 5.10am yesterday.
Mr McCambridge was a passenger the Opel Astra which collided with a taxi on the Ballyhooley Road near the Fox and Hounds pub in Cork city.
The driver of the Opel Astra, an 18-year-old man from the local area, was seriously injured.
The fire brigade had to use cutting equipment to remove the occupants from the car.
Both the driver of the Opel Astra and the driver of the taxi, who is in his 40s, were taken to Cork University Hospital. However, neither suffered life-threatening injuries.
Mr McCambridge’s body was removed to the hospital for a postmortem.
The road was closed for a forensic examination and traffic diversions were in place until early yesterday afternoon.
