Man drowns off Cork coast

A man drowned when he was swept into sea while fishing off the Cork coast this evening.

A man drowned when he was swept into sea while fishing off the Cork coast this evening.

The 45-year-old man was fishing with a friend on rocks along the shore at Gortnakilly, Bantry Bay, when he was swept sea at about 3 p.m., a Garda spokeswoman said.

His friend immediately raised the alarm and the Castlebere Lifeboat recovered the man’s body from rough waters at about 4.20 p.m.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital. There it to be a post mortem tomorrow.

The man was married with children but his name has not been released.
