A man in his 50s is due to appear before the Dublin District Court today in relation to an incident in which damage was caused by a car to the main reception area of the RTÉ studios in Donnybrook, Dublin, on Saturday night.

During the incident the Nissan Micra car is believed to have been driven through a security barrier on the RTÉ grounds before coming to a stop at the revolving doors into the station's television building at approximately 11pm.

RTÉ said in news bulletins the man was the same individual who last month interrupted The Late Late Showby arriving on stage to berate presenter Pat Kenny.

A spokeswoman for RTÉ confirmed the incident had occurred at RTÉ's reception area and that damage had been caused to the reception area entrance. However, she said she could not comment further due to the pending court appearance.

Although most members of the audience from the Tubridy Tonightchat show had left the building, it is understood that some individuals were still in the vicinity at the time of the incident.They were forced to take cover as the car approached. However, no one was injured and the man was restrained by members of RTÉ's security team before gardaí were called.

A spokeswoman for the Garda press office said officers from Donnybrook Garda station had arrested a man in his 50s in relation to criminal damage at approximately 11.03pm.

"He is detained at Donnybrook Garda station and will appear before Dublin District Court 46 on Monday at 10.30 am," she said.
