A man in his 30s will appear before Dublin District Court later this morning charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of John Murdoch in Tallaght on Saturday.

Mr Murdoch was stabbed a number of times in the chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at Tallaght Hospital.

Mr Murdoch, who lived with his parents Annette and John Murdoch in Donomore Crescent, was found bleeding heavily, lying on the ground at Cushlawn Dale, a private apartments development. Gardaí say a disagreement between a number of young people erupted into a physical confrontation at a local shop, which continued across a green area and ended at Cushlawn Dale.

It is understood Mr Murdoch had been out with friends celebrating the draw of local team Shamrock Rovers against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League.

Local councillor Maire Devine said the killing had marred what should have been a proud evening for Tallaght. "It's tragic for the family and my heart goes out to them."
