A man has been jailed for six years by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court as a result of a Garda surveillance operation which led to a cocaine and ecstasy find valued at £150,000.
Jeffrey Finnegan (20), of Finglas pleaded guilty to having the drugs for supply. The Pearse Street Garda Drugs Unit had confidential information about a field at Scribblestown used for storing drugs. Members of the unit and of the National Drugs Unit hid nearby on July 29th last year.
The gardai seized 4,000 ecstasy tablets and 266 grammes of cocaine after Finnegan and another man entered the field with a package. Two further caches of over 5,000 "E-tabs" and a .38 gun with ammunition were found.
Judge Elizabeth Dunne was told that Finnegan escaped
???????moved in on them appeared but gave himself up to the Garda at Blanchardstown after lying in a ditch for several hours. The other man, was arrested and has still to face the courts.
Finnegan said he was to be paid for moving a package with three grammes of "hash", which he said he needed badly.
Judge Dunne noted that Finnegan's mother took an active interest in the campaign against drugs. She refused leave to appeal.
