Man given seven years for raping prostitutes

A man who raped four prostitutes has been jailed for seven years by Mr Justice Carney at the Central Criminal Court

A man who raped four prostitutes has been jailed for seven years by Mr Justice Carney at the Central Criminal Court. Thomas Kidd (31), Catherine's Lane, Church Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty to committing the offences on September 15th, November 6th and November 8th, 1997.

Mr Justice Carney said the Garda had an impressive record in vindicating the personal rights of prostitutes and did so non-judgmentally. This was the third such case before the court recently. The court heard three of the offences involved oral rape and one vaginal rape.

The rapes followed a pattern of Kidd making a deal for sex but when the women got to a secluded area he beat them before raping them. Two of the offences happened in the Smithfield Market area, and one each in Manor Street and Wolfe Tone Quay.

One of his victims went in a Garda car to the Bridewell district courts and recognised him when he appeared there on another matter.
