A man arrested by detectives investigating a series of attacks on prostitutes has been remanded in custody without consent to bail. The 31-year-old man from Dublin's north side is accused of rape and aggravated sexual assault at Irwin Court, Kilmainham, on October 21st and the theft of £120 in cash and jewellery from another woman at Misery Hill near Pearse Street on September 28th.

Det Sgt Murphy objected to bail, saying more serious charges were being preferred. Defence solicitor Mr Philip Hannon asked for an independent surety, saying the accused man had previously faced a charge of robbing another woman which was later withdrawn and he had turned up for every court appearance.

Remanding him in custody, Judge Desmond Hogan at Dublin District Court said he wanted to hear more Garda evidence on the issue of bail at the next appearance in a week.
