A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating the death of a woman in Co Clare last week.
Deirdre McCarthy (43) was found dead on Fanore beach on Thursday morning, some three days after she was reported missing from her home in Ballyvaughan.
Ms McCarthy, a guesthouse worker, was last seen alive on the previous Sunday at around 11.30pm
Gardaí said she died a violent death and that they believed the answers to case would be found in the local community.
A Garda spokesman said today that a man in his late 30s had been arrested in relation to her death and that he was being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice act 1984 at Ennis Garda station.
At the weekend, a man who gardaí wished to interview as part of the investigation was hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries in an apparent incident of self-harm.
Ms McCarthy is survived by her mother Helen, brother Tom and sisters Helen, Christina, Bernie and Ann.
