Man held over McMahon murder

Gardai are continuing to question a man held in relation to a gun murder which occurred in Co Louth more than a year ago.

Gardai are continuing to question a man held in relation to a gun murder which occurred in Co Louth more than a year ago.

The 39-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of Seamus McMahon on March 21st of last year.

McMahon (41) was shot dead in a property at Bothar Croinn, Dundalk.

He died over what was believed to be a personal matter but his death was at the time linked to dissident activity. He was previously charged with being a member of the IRA although he was later acquitted at the Special Criminal Court.

Gardai believe a three man gang armed with at least one handgun observed his movements prior to killing him.

The arrested man is being held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act in Dundalk Garda station.

He is the second person to be arrested in connection with the investigation.

A woman (32) was arrested on June 7th last and was subsequently released. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
