GARDAI investigating the killing of two young men whose bodies were recovered from the Grand Canal in January have arrested a west Dublin man.

The 25-year-old was arrested at noon yesterday and is currently being held in Tallaght Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. The bodies of Mr Patrick Murray (19) from Ballyfermot and Mr Darren Carey (20) from Kilmainham were taken from the canal near Kearneystown Bridge, at Newcastle, Co Dublin, on January 9th and January 10th.

The men, who had been missing for more than a week, were believed to have been associates of the man arrested yesterday.

They died from shotgun wounds to the back of the head. It is believed one of the victims was killed at another location, and the second killed by the canal, where both bodies were then dumped.
