A Clondalkin man who used a syringe in several robberies has been jailed for six years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday. Gary Quinn (21), of Moore field Lawns, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to five robberies in Clondalkin on dates between last November and February 1997. In one, he stabbed a 56year-old woman in the hand during a struggle to grab her handbag while she was returning from shopping, Judge Joseph Mathews was told.

Earlier Det Garda Fergal Foley said he believed the syringe had tomato sauce in it and not blood. He also accepted the stabbing was accidental.
