A man who jumped into a Co Tyrone river early today after driving through a police checkpoint was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The motorist was ordered to stop at the checkpoint in the Square in the centre of the village of Moy at around 12.30 a.m. but drove on.

He was then seen leaving the car, climbing over a fence and jumping into the waters of the River Blackwater.

Police said a major air, land and underwater search was mounted before the man was found. He was arrested for questioning about dangerous driving and driving while unfit.
