A man has been remanded in custody charged with the manslaughter of  journalist Eugene Moloney during an incident  in Dublin last weekend.

Gary Burch (21), of Kennington Close, Templeogue, appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon.

The court heard he was charged with Mr Moloney's manslaughter at 12.49pm at Kevin Street Garda station.

Dressed in a grey striped hooded top, dark blue tracksuit bottoms and white runners, Mr Burch, who was represented by Michael Bowman BL, did not address the court during the and has not yet indicated how he will plead to the charge.

Mr Burch made no reply when he was charged, the court heard.

He was remanded in custody to appear again in court on July 2nd.

There was no application for bail or legal aid.

Mr Moloney (55), from Portobello, Dublin, was found on Lower Camden Street just before 4.30am on Sunday. He had sustained serious head injuries.

A postmortem revealed he died as a result of a blow to the head.
