A Dublin man was today given a two-year suspended sentence for possessing child pornography.

Gerard Sheridan(38), from Hartstown, was also fined €1000 and instructed to undertake therapy as directed by the probation service.

Sheridan had previously pleaded guilty to possessing the images.

Sentencing him at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Desmond Hogan said that the images were at the lower end of the scale and that Sheridan had co-operated fully with the court.

He added that he was conscious Sheridan had lost his job as a consequence, but he said that the court had to treat the case with the seriousness it deserved.

Sheridan was given 12 months to pay the fine and a €500 probation bond.
