A 42-year old man is in a serious condition from wounds sustained when he was stabbed in the Druncondra area of Dublin last night.

The stabbing took place on St Alphonsus Road, Drumcondra, just before 2am. Two men demanded money and stabbed the victim in the stomach before taking his wallet. They then made their escape in the direction of Lower Drumcondra Road.

The culprits are described as both aged in their early twenties and approximately 1.68 — 1.7 Meters in height. They spoke with what are described as Eastern European accents.

The injured man was taken to the Mater Hospital where his injuries are described as serious.

The scene of the assault is sealed off for a technical examination and investigations are continuing.
