Man shot dead in Dublin's north inner city

A man in his 40s was killed in a gun attack carried out by two men on a motorbike in north Dublin this evening.

A man in his 40s was killed in a gun attack carried out by two men on a motorbike in north Dublin this evening.

The victim - who is believed to be a local man - was shot at the junction of Clonliffe Road and Ballybough Road at 4.55pm.

Gardaí believe the man was shot several times with a handgun by one of the men on the motorbike.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Two men have been arrested in the vicinity but gardaí would not confirm this evening whether they are being held in connection with the shooting.

The scene has been sealed off for officers from the Garda Technical Bureau to examine the area.

Gardai still trying to establish a motive for the shooting have appealed for anyone with information to contact them at Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station.
