Gardai in Limerick are following a definite line of inquiry into an incident in which a man lost the sight of an eye after he was slashed with a sword. A 30-year-old man was attacked by a gang at his home in Delmege Park, Moyross, in Limerick, at 3.45 a.m. on Sunday. The father of a young family, he is said to be comfortable at the Limerick Regional Hospital.

A Garda spokesman said a group of three or four men demanded that the victim come out of the house. An argument developed and the man was hit on the head with a sword and "suffered appalling injuries to his face". It is understood the men were known to the victim, and the attackers, in their late 20s, had been at a party and had a dispute earlier with him. The sword used in the attack was not recovered and the Garda is appealing for witnesses.
