A man in his 30s was in Garda custody last night following a robbery in which a shop worker was stabbed with a syringe on Saturday night.

The robbery took place at a shop on James’s Street, Dublin, shortly before 10pm.

The male raider entered the shop at about 9.50pm and threatened two male staff members with a syringe. A struggle took place and gardaí were alerted.

Gardaí said the suspect was arrested at the scene before being taken to James’s Hospital, where he was treated for a leg injury. He was detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

One of the staff members, a man aged in his 30s, collapsed at the scene and was also taken to St James’s Hospital where he is in a serious condition.
