A STAND-OFF incident involving a man at a house in Ballyvolane in Cork city was resolved peacefully yesterday morning.
Officers were called to a house at Meadow Park in the northside suburb of Ballyvolane shortly before midnight on Thursday. The man was in regular contact with gardaí throughout the episode.
A number of gardaí were assigned to the incident and the Armed Response Unit arrived at the scene yesterday morning as a precautionary measure.
However, the operation was soon scaled back when it emerged that the man posed no threat to members of the force. For a time, gardaí believed he was armed, but this later proved incorrect.
A man of unspecified age has since given himself up to gardaí. He was being questioned at the Bridewell station in Cork yesterday. It is understood the man became distressed on Thursday evening and locked himself into the house.
The incident is being cited as being domestic in nature and was brought under control by mid-morning yesterday.
