A man was last night airlifted from the MS Balmoral cruise ship after a suspected heart attack. The ship, which is replicating the voyage of the Titanic, had left Cobh and was heading out into the Atlantic.
The man (56) was treated by two doctors on board before they contacted the Irish Coast Guard for assistance. A Shannon- based helicopter made its way to the ship which was moving about 122km (76 miles) southwest of Dursey Head off west Cork.
The man, described by the Coast Guard as “walking and conscious”, was taken from the ship at about 6pm and flown to Tralee General Hospital.
The 12-night cruise carrying 1,300 passengers visited Cobh on Monday.
The Balmoral voyage is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the White Star liner.
