Johannesburg - The man who stabbed South African Prime Minister Hendrick Verwoerd to death 33 years ago died on Thursday

Johannesburg - The man who stabbed South African Prime Minister Hendrick Verwoerd to death 33 years ago died on Thursday. Dimitri Tsa fendas (81), died at the Sterkfontein mental hospital where he had spent his last years after nearly three decades in jail, a hospital spokesman said.

On September 6th, 1966, Tsafendas walked into the all-white legislature and stabbed Mr Verwoerd, the architect of apartheid, four times. At the time, Tsafendas claimed a giant tapeworm in his stomach had forced him to kill Mr Verwoerd.
