Golf:Italy's Matteo Manassero (17) became the European Tour's youngest winner when he captured the Castello Masters title by four shots today. Dubliner Peter Lawrie also enjoyed a good week to finish in a tie for third place.

The youngest previous tour winner was New Zealand's Danny Lee who was 18 when he triumphed at the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia in February 2009.

Manassero started the day two shots behind leader Gary Boyd but a red-hot homeward nine and a collapse by the English golfer led to victory for the teenager.

The Italian closed with a four-under 67 for a 16-under total of 268 to win comfortably from Spain's Ignacio Garrido (68) whose late surge earned second place.

Manassero, who collected the €333,330 winner's cheque, said: "It's just a fantastic feeling. I have always worked for this moment."

Boyd, who shot a course-record equalling 63 on Saturday, slumped to a 74 to share third place at 11-under. His challenge evaporated at the par-three 16th where he found water and carded a double-bogey five.

Lawrie's good week finished with a closing 70 which contained two birdies and one bogey for his share of third place. Gareth Maybin made a move with his 67 to get to seven under and inside the top 20. Damien McGrane matched Maybin's score to get to five under, while Paul Ginley (71) remained on one under.

Shane Lowry (72) and Michael Hoey (78) ended the week three and six over respectively.
