McAleese's candidacy endorsed by PDs

The Progressive Democrats yesterday joined Fianna Fáil in nominating Prof Mary McAleese (right) as their candidate for the Presidency. With her after receiving the endorsement at their parliamentary party meeting in Dublin were (from left) the PD leader, Ms Mary Harney, and the parliamentary party chairman, Senator Jim Gibbons. Prof McAleese condemned further allegations against the LabourDL-Green Party candidate, Ms Adi Roche. Last night, Ms Roche was given a rapturous welcome in her home town of Clonmel, Co Tipperary, where she repeated her determination to fight to win.
