Racing: Tony McCoy faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking his right wrist in a crashing fall at Galway this afternoon.
Britain's champion jump jockey was taken to hospital following his tumble from Sporting Limerick at the second-last flight in the williamhill.ie Handicap Hurdle.
McCoy was due to partner Far From Trouble in the William Hill Galway Plate, the feature race of the seven-day Festival, and to rub salt into the wounds Roger Loughran deputised and won on Chrsity Roche's 8/1 shot.
McCoy was taken directly to the University College Hospital in Galway, where X-rays revealed he had sustained a badly-broken right wrist.
"He has been treated for his injuries and is comfortable," said a hospital spokesperson.
The 32-year-old rider will be operated on this evening or in the morning - when the joint will be either plated or pinned to aid the healing process.
McCoy, who will marry fiancee Chanelle Burke in Majorca on September 12th, is expected to be out of action for about six weeks.
The Noel Meade-trained Sporting Limerick suffered a broken neck on impact and had to be put down.
