Racing: Tony McCoy is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after having surgery on the broken right wrist he sustained at the Galway Festival yesterday.

The champion jump jockey is recovering after surgery at University College Hospital following his tumble from the ill-fated Sporting Limerick at the second-last flight in the williamhill.ie Handicap Hurdle.

"I understand he's had the operation and it went fine. I hope to speak to him later," said McCoy's personal assistant Gee Bradburne.

McCoy missed the winning ride on Far From Trouble in the big race of the day, the William Hill Galway Plate, and he would have partnered leading fancy Kinger Rocks in today's Guinness Galway Hurdle.
