McElhinney’s for Men in Athboy, Co Meath, has said it is trading well and is not connected to the well-known department store of the same name which is subject to a winding up order.

McElhinney’s for Men owners father and son Patrick and Pádraig McElhinney say they run a separate company from the owners of McElhinney’s Fashions.

The two shops, which are side by side, were founded by Molly McElhinney and her husband in 1937, but have traded separately for many years.

According to papers filed in the High Court, a petition to wind up McElhinney’s Department Stores Ltd, the owners of McElhinney’s Fashions, has been made by a German-owned shoe manufacturer Peter Kaiser Schuhfabrik.
