Scotland coach Ian McGeechan has made two changes to his team for the Calcutta Cup match against England on Saturday.
Andy Craig replaces centre Kevin Utterson and Nathan Hines comes in for Stuart Grimes at lock.
Craig will win his ninth cap at Twickenham as the Scots attempt to build on their 30-22 victory over Wales two weeks ago against an England side forwards coach Jim Telfer believes are the best in the world.
McGeechan said his centre pairing of Craig and James McLaren, both schooled in rugby league, would line up in a left-right formation rather than the convention of inside and outside centres.
"I've always like this alignment, he said. "The game has gone away from it. But James McLaren is playing that way with his club in France. The other point is that the way of delivering tactics must vary.
"Variety has to come from what you do in midfield. Playing right and left gives us options".
Hines, who will win his eighth cap, got the nod ahead of Grimes in the second row because the Australian-born player is fresher and a bigger force in the loose, McGeechan said.
"Stuart has played two hard games whereas Nathan has been able to rest," he said. "Leaving out Grimes also gives us the opportunity to vary things. But we recognise that Nathan is a very good ball carrier."
