A bronze statue of the well-known Kerry football manager Mick O’Dwyer has been unveiled in his native Waterville by O’Dwyer’s protege, Minister for Arts Jimmy Deenihan.
Mr Deenihan won five all-Ireland titles under O’Dwyer’s stewardship.
The statue, by Alan Hall, the sculptor who also completed Waterville’s Charlie Chaplin statue, was commissioned by a local committee.
Mr Deenihan said O’Dwyer’s pursuit of fitness and extreme training methods were inspirational to him as a young player when he joined the Kerry panel in 1972.
