A Yugoslav court today jailed Rade Markovic, the feared Serbian secret police chief under Mr Slobodan Milosevic, for one year for revealing state secrets.

Markovic is the first senior Milosevic ally to be convicted and imprisoned since reformers ousted the former Yugoslav president in a mass uprising last October.
Two of Markovic's former police associates were also sentenced to one year in jail while a third accused received a sentence of one year and four months.
Markovic was arrested in February on suspicion of orchestrating a 1999 motorway car crash intended to kill then opposition leader Mr Vuk Draskovic. Mr Draskovic escaped with minor injuries, but four aides were killed.
It later emerged Markovic was also being investigated for revealing state secrets. It is not known whether he will also face a trial relating to the crash.
Several former associates of Mr Milosevic - who was handed over to the UN war crimes tribunal last week - are under criminal investigation, some in custody, for offences ranging from embezzlement to suspected murder of political opponents.
