A working group will be set up by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to resolve the Mullaghmore dispute, it was announced yesterday. A spokesperson for Ms de Valera said the Minister was considering the terms of reference, a chairperson and appropriate representatives to be appointed from national and local groups.

Today Ms de Valera will meet the Burren Action Group, which has strongly opposed any development at the Mullaghmore site in the Burren National Park, Co Clare. A group spokesman said yesterday: "We will use the meeting today to argue the need for the immediate provision and funding of more cost-effective and environmentally beneficial facilities at Corofin, Kilfenora and other villages."

There is no environmental logic in proceeding with the Department's ill-fated and divisive plans for a development at Mullaghmore, he added.

Clare County Council postponed until May a vote on the Government's revised planning application for visitor facilities at Mullaghmore last November to allow negotiations to take place.
