Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern has announced the allocation of €1.08 million from the department's Reconciliation Fund.
Mr Ahern said 31 groups involved in a wide-range of cross-community and cross-Border outreach and reconciliation work would benefit from the financial support.
The Reconciliation Fund was set up by the department in 1982 to support organisations involved in reconciliation work leading to "a better understanding between people on the island of Ireland and between Ireland and Britain".
Some €19.71 million has been awarded since then to more than 562 groups. Yesterday's awards mark the second tranche of the overall allocation of €2.7 million for 2006.
Mr Ahern said those bodies and organisations grant-aided by his department "are all working for a better future for their communities.
"They are positive voices for change and deserve our full support and encouragement."
He added: "I had an opportunity to meet many of these groups at a recent networking forum hosted by my department for groups involved in reconciliation activities on both sides of the Border.
"The event was an important opportunity to reflect on some of the key challenges facing the reconciliation sector."
He said he was happy to pledge the Government's continued support for such work.
