Mr Gay Mitchell, Dublin South Central TD, has announced his intention to run for the position of leader of Fine Gael.
He is the fourth TD to put his name forward for the job, vacated by Mr Michael Noonan following the party’s disastrous General Election performance.

The other candidates are Dublin North Central TD Mr Richard Bruton, Mr Enda Kenny from Mayo and Carlow/Kilkenny TD Mr Phil Hogan.
At a meeting in Dublin on Wednesday the Parliamentary Party failed to agree on a single unified candidate for the leadership post.
