Gardaí have today named the three individuals who died in a collision near Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, yesterday evening.
A woman, who was five month pregnant, died in hospital this morning following the three-car collision on the N2. She has been named as Roisín Connolly (39) from Gracepark Road in Drumcondra, Dublin.
She was a passenger in a Seat Toledo which was involved in the collision with a BMW carrying four male passengers and an Opel Vectra that contained two adults and two children.
Glen Curtis (28) from Dunroe, Nobber, Co.Meath and Paul Carroll (27) years of Dunheeda, Kingscourt, Co.Cavan, who were both passengers in the BMW, died at the scene.
The 28-year-old driver of the BMW and a 31-year-old passenger in the care were also injured in the crash as was the 32-year-old driver of the Seat Toledo. They were all transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Two children, who were passengers in the Opel Vectra, were also brought to hospital for preliminary check-ups in the wake of the fatal collision on the N2, at Nurebeg, two miles outside Carrickmacross on the Ardee side.
Emergency services faced hazardous weather conditions in dealing with the crash, which was reported to gardaí shortly before 7pm.
A fire tender and three ambulances were called to the scene and the deceased and injured were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
The N2 at the Carrickmacross bypass remains closed to traffic until a technical examination of the scene was completed.
