The three were employees of the engineering firm Interenergoservis working at the Southern Baghdad power station.

State television reported the workers had been travelling between Baghdad and Latifiya on Monday evening when their car was attacked by unknown assailants.

Eight of the company's workers were kidnapped in Baghdad last month.

Elsewhere, four people were killed and 23 hurt when a bomb exploded in a northern oil town town of Kirkuk.  The bomb went off in a mostly Kurdish district of the city.
