More State land set aside for cheaper housing

The Government is to make available further lands in Dublin , Cork and Waterford for affordable housing

The Government is to make available further lands in Dublin , Cork and Waterford for affordable housing. The lands will provide sites for some 3,600 houses.

The plan will work by handing over State land to local authorities or associated agencies, which will be charged with ensuring houses are made available for sums that do not include the usual in-built land prices.

those who have been priced out of the market in recent times. We will ensure that the projects are developed in a sustainable manner"

The

Taoiseach

said that the Affordable Housing Initiative is an important part

of

Government

policy.

Earlier this year the Government announced that more than 300 acres of State land in Dublin, Kildare and Meath would be freed-up for the building of affordable houses aimed at first-time buyers.

The Government is to release State-owned lands at

Harcourt

Terrace,

Portrane and St Bricin's

Hospital in Dublin.

Local authority lands

in

the

South Dublin County Council, Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council areas will also be used.

In Cork City properties on the Model Farm Road and the Youghal Road have been identified along with lands in Clonakilty.

Waterford

City

Council

is

to provide land for approximately 100 housing units.
