A man charged with conspiracy to cause explosions in relation to the IRA mortar bomb attack at Heathrow Airport in 1994 was granted bail at Belmarsh Magistrates Court in London, yesterday, writes Rachel Donnelly.

However, the Crown Prosecution Service has criticised the court's decision to allow Mr Michael Gallagher bail. It will lodge an appeal today at the Old Bailey.

As a result of the CPS appeal, Mr Gallagher will remain in custody at Belmarsh until a decision on his future is made.

Mr Gallagher also faces charges that he provided a lock up garage and a car to members of an IRA cell. Six mortar bombs, which failed to detonate, were launched from a van outside the perimeter fence at Heathrow Airport in 1994 over three days.
