A poll on how reform of the Common Agricultural Policy is viewed has shown a majority in favour of an upper limit on direct payments to farmers.

Most of those polled in the Eurobarometer survey found 43 per cent against 25 per cent wanted an upper limit on the basis that bigger farms did not need unlimited payments but still benefited from them. Only 9 per cent of people in Ireland believed that direct payment subsidies should be unconditional.
