The body of a mother of three in her 40s was taken from the River Lee at the Marina in Cork after her car plunged into the river near Pairc Ui Chaoimh at 2 a.m on Saturday. The death was not regarded as suspicious. Once the alarm was raised, gardai and units of the Cork Fire Brigade were quickly at the scene. Divers from the Naval Service later recovered the body. The car was lifted from the water by a crane.
Yesterday in Kerry, the body of a middle-aged man was located on the coastline near Kenmare. According to the Garda, there was no evidence of foul play. A post-mortem is to be carried out.
