New Delhi - The head of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity order admitted yesterday that one of her nuns had hurt four street children in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta because they stole some money.
"The sister admits her guilt with great sorrow. Her intention was to correct the children for stealing some money, but she definitely overstepped her limits," Sister Nirmala said in a statement. The statement came after a father of one of the children complained to local police that a nun at the Missionaries of Charity Mahatma Gandhi Welfare centre in Calcutta had burnt his daughter's hand with a hot knife. Police detained the nun but she was later granted bail.
