A Dublin motorist appeared in court yesterday accused of making threatening phone calls to M50 toll staff over traffic tailbacks.

John Crowe (57), of Fortfield Drive, Terenure, was charged with making several calls to a male member of staff on May 9th last year. Charges relating to calls made to three other members of staff were withdrawn when he appeared in Dublin District Court yesterday.

Garda Connell Treanor said it was alleged Mr Crowe made the calls about the "traffic situation on the M50". The complaints were very aggressive and threatening, it was alleged.

Judge Ann Watkin adjourned the case for hearing to June 18th, and ordered the prosecution to provide the defence with all relevant statements.
