Lisbon - President Jose Eduardo dos Santos of Angola reshuffled his government yesterday, taking personal charge of the armed forces' campaign against UNITA rebels.

In a statement read to parliament, Mr Santos said he was taking over as both Prime Minister and Minister of Defence in order to "tighten the chain of command". The President said the government would adopt emergency measures to contain the revolt in the former Portuguese colony.
