The DPP has asked the Court of Criminal Appeal to transfer to St Patrick's Institution a youth jailed for four years for allowing himself to be carried in a stolen car which collided with a Garda patrol car in April 2002, killing both gardaí inside that vehicle.

The youth had been detained in Trinity House remand centre but the centre said a rehabilitation programme for him is not working.

Garda Tony Tighe and Garda Michael Padden died after their patrol car was rammed by a stolen Mazda MX5 on the Stillorgan dual-carriageway the early hours of the morning.
