LONDON - Mr Colin Moynihan's five year campaign to inherit the family title, against the claims of two young Filipino nephews, was backed by the House of Lords yesterday.

The former Tory sports minister's application to sit in the Lords as the 4th Baron Moynihan is now expected to be approved by Queen Elizabeth in time for him to take his seat when Parliament returns in May.

The Lord Chairman, Lord Boston of Favershan, who chaired a Lords inquiry last month into Mr Moynihan's claim, told peers: "Neither of the two sons purporting to be the sons of the 3rd Baron can in fact be the heir to the peerage."
