Rugby:The October 2nd Magners League meeting between Leinster and Munster looks set to be the first sell-out at the Aviva Stadium.
Ticket sales for the latest “interpro” between the old rivals have exceeded 47,500 and Leinster are confident a further 3,500 will be sold between now and Week 5 of the new season.
This will account for all 51,000 of the “saleable” tickets for the new stadium.
“There has been a steady take-up over the past few weeks and we are delighted to announce that over 47,500 tickets have now been sold for the Munster match,” said Leinster chief executive Mick Dawson today.
“Our competitively priced family, junior and adult packages have proved to be extremely popular with our supporters and it illustrates the appetite across the province and beyond for top class rugby.
“I would urge supporters intending to attend this historic fixture which marks the first competitive (rugby) game to be played in the state-of-the-art Aviva Stadium, to book your tickets today because we’re anticipating a sell-out.”
The FAI has yet to sell out the venue despite already hosting Manchester United and Argentina at Lansdowne Road, with ticket prices seemingly proving a stumbling block for some fans.
Tickets for next month's game cost between €30 and €70 and can be purchased at Donnybrook Spar and the Leinster Rugby Store (Donnybrook).
They can also be bought through Ticketmaster, online or by telephone, but there is a service charge on each ticket purchased that ranges from €3 to €5.95.
