London - A convicted murderer yesterday admitted attempting to murder the "Yorkshire Ripper" by stabbing him in the eye with a pen in a ward at Broadmoor hospital when he appeared in court.
Ian Kay (30) pinned Peter Sutcliffe to the floor of the 47year-old's room on Henley ward in Broadmoor after asking to borrow an envelope.
He then stabbed Sutcliffe about 10 times in the eyes with a Parker pen, blinding him in one eye and severely damaging the other one, Reading Crown Court was told. Kay is serving life in Broadmoor for murdering Woolworths store manager John Penfold (21), in Teddington, Middlesex, in 1994.
