A murder inquiry was launched today after a man was knocked down and killed in a nightclub car park in Northern Ireland early this morning.

The 21-year-old was struck by a maroon Vauxhall Cavalier outside the Glengannon Hotel in Dungannon, Co Tyrone.

Police believe two men were in the car which allegedly drove at the victim at around 2.30am before leaving the scene. He was killed almost instantly. One theory being examined by detectives is that a row may have flared earlier inside the hotel's Club Matrix.

It is understood the dead man was from Omagh, Co Tyrone, although his name has not yet been released.

As police hunted the pair seen in the Cavalier, they said the car would have suffered frontal damage due to the severity of the collision. Any witnesses have been urged to contact investigating officers.
