A murder investigation is under way after a man in his thirties was shot dead in his north Dublin home as he watched television.
Two men drove up to the house on Ratoath Avenue in a silver Subaru car, broke a window in the front of the house, and fired a number of shots at the man.
It is understood the victim was at home with his partner and two young children when the attackers opened fire.
The victim was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Labour Party Spokesperson on Justice, Brendan Howlin, has condemned the murder and appealed for anyone with information about the killing to contact gardaí.
Mr Howlin added: "Too many families are losing loved ones as a result of individuals consorting with criminals. Yet, regrettably, so frequent have these murders become that as a society we have lost our sense of shock when news breaks of another killing."
Fine Gael justice spokesman Jim O'Keefe said the shooting brought the number of violent deaths this year to 21. "The grim litany of deaths that we had become used to in Northern Ireland has now been replaced by the horrible roll call of gangland murders, mainly in Dublin," he said.
