THE MAN accused of killing Irish woman Cecily Clark at her Cape Town home last week is believed to have gained entry to her house through an open window.

Nelson Gobodawana (25) appeared at Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday where he was charged with the murder of Ms Clark last Wednesday evening at her suburban home in Claremont.

Mr Gobodawana, who is alleged to have attacked Ms Clark during an altercation inside the house at about 5.45pm, was remanded in custody.

Police captain Angie Latchman said Ms Clark, originally from Shankill, Co Dublin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“During the altercation, the suspect grabbed hold of Mrs Clark by the throat and began strangling her, resulting in her falling to the ground in an unconscious state,” she said.

Ms Clark’s husband John arrived at their home as his wife was being attacked but he managed to set off an alarm after pretending to fall unconscious. He is said to be stable.

Mr Gobodawana was arrested at the scene with a bag full of stolen items by security guards responding to the alarm.
