A London court heart yesterday that a man facing extradition in connection with a triple murder had been on his way to Ireland where it was feared he might commit further offences. Extradition proceedings against Mr Jacques Girardin (39), wanted in France, were adjourned for one week at Bow Street Magistrates' Court. Police have linked him to the murder last month of Ms Pascale Longesserre (38) and her two children, Camille (1) and Florian (4), at their home in Angers.

During a three-minute hearing, Det Sgt David Jones from Scotland Yard's extradition squad said the French authorities had discovered the bodies of Ms Longesserre and her children on October 2nd, although they believed the murders had taken place during the night of September 18th.

Mr Girardin had left France on or about October 1st and was arrested in Oldham, Greater Manchester, on October 10th. It is alleged that he raped and murdered Ms Longesserre and then murdered her children using a knife and a hammer.

Mr Jones objected to bail on the grounds that before Mr Girardin's arrest in Manchester last week he was thought to be en route to Ireland "where he might commit further offences".
