The jury in the trial of a Dublin man accused of the murder of a friend who himself was due to go on trial for murder is to retire today to consider its verdict.

In the Central Criminal Court, the jury has heard closing speeches in the trial of Mr Paul McCarthy (37), of Chamber Street, Dublin, who has pleaded not guilty to the murder of father-of-three Martin Comerford (36), of Tom Kelly Road Flats, Charlemont Street, Dublin, on April 26th, 1999.

Mr Comerford's body was found at the end of a laneway off Lower Mount Pleasant Avenue, Ranelagh, on the morning he was due to stand trial for the murder of another Dublin man, Mr Anthony Beatty.
